Hi Vincent,

First of all, the main reason I am not using Flask on App Engine is that App Engine's new pricing scheme doesn't work for me with pet projects. I'd much rather have a bunch of pet projects to tinker with on some shared hosting all for $10/month or less than $9/month minimum for each. That being said, one of the best things about Flask is that I do have the option of easily reworking the app to work on App Engine should any of those projects grow to the point of generating sufficient revenue.

At VendAsta we currently use a mix of frameworks. Our main project, StepRep, does run on App Engine and is Django-based. Some of our other projects are using webapp2 and we even have one that was built with Tipfy before the project was deprecated in favour of webapp2.

Hi Jeffery,

Thanks for the great article.

I have three questions for you, I hope you won't mind answering them:
- In your personal projects, why don't you use Flask on App Engine? You'd get the best of both worlds (great framework + easy deployment) and you wouldn't even have to use Fabric.
- In your day job at VendAsta, which Python framework do you use to develop on App Engine? Is it webapp/webapp2 or another?
- Could you elaborate on the types of applications you're building on AppEngine? For example, does http://www.steprep.com/ run on App Engine?

Ok, I'm interested in the followups! (Specifically the way you handle database migrations.) Thanks for the article.

[...] Single Table Inheritance is one of the coolest features of Ruby on Rails. Unfortunately, it is one feature that has not made its way into CakePHP. With a little bit of work, however, you can implement it for yourself. It should be noted, however, that this is by no means a complete solution. What follows works for me in my applications but does not cover all possible scenarios. This tutorial is in the same table as my blog entries so you are seeing the methods below in action but your mileage may vary. [...]

Looks great! However, I am having trouble referencing the models from the testing folder I actually get an import error.

./manage.py test app

returns no errors, all tests pass. But when I right click on the unittest file and run it ... I get no module exists..
I am referencing the model like so

from ..models. import blah

I am using PyDev in eclipse, Python 26 and Django 1.2.1

Any idea why the model is not found when I run tests individually?
